Crowns, inlays, bridges
It can happen that for whatever reason a tooth is damaged or no longer functions properly. If the tooth can no longer be saved with a filling, such as when there is too little of the tooth left, it can often still be built up with a crown, inlay or bridge made of high-quality material. The dental technician makes the replacement of the tooth outside the mouth and makes sure it looks as natural as possible.
Until the time the final crown or bridge is ready, you will be given a temporary crown or bridge. This temporary appliance will remain in place for two weeks and will be secured with temporary cement. You can eat, drink and brush as usual with this temporary appliance, but you should be careful not to eat too many sticky things like chewing gum or toffees.
Crowns
A crown is a cap made of metal and/or porcelain that is placed over a ground tooth. The crown is one piece and gives more strength and protection to the tooth under the crown. The dentist secures the artificial crown with glue so it looks like your own tooth. Maintenance of a crown is very important. By keeping the crown clean with a soft toothbrush. it can generally last at least ten years.
Inlays
An inlay is a piece of gold or porcelain that is placed in the chewing surface of a molar. The inlay is manufactured in the dental laboratory to the model of the molar in question. When placing an inlay, the dentist will first make a hole in the molar to remove the old filling or affected tooth tissue. This is followed by an impression of the molar and an emergency filling will be placed. After the dental technician customizes the inlay, the dentist will attach it to the molar in a follow-up treatment.
Bridges
A bridge is made to replace one or more missing teeth and/or molars. A bridge is attached to two or more pillars (crowns) connected to a floating intermediate part (dummy) that replaces the damaged tooth. The dentist makes sure the bridge is customized to match the shape and color of your own tooth. As a result, it remains a natural fit in your mouth.
